Did you know that Falcons are the national animal of Qatar?

Falcons are a vital part of Qatar's culture and heritage, and are highly valued for their speed, sharp vision, and hunting skills. These birds can fly incredibly fast, making them excellent hunters. Falconry, the sport of training falcons to hunt, has been an important tradition in Qatar for many years and they are a highly-desired (and very expensive) pet.

Falcons are a symbol of Qatar's heritage and strength, therefore owning one is regarded as a symbol of wealth and good fortune. There are even special hospitals to care for these birds, and a market (called a Souq) where they are bought and sold, showing how important they are to the country.

Oli and I paid a visit to the Souq whilst we were in Doha, and each shop had several falcons inside, simply 'hanging around' ... it was just like going to Pets at Home to view the rabbits, hamsters and guinea-pigs, except these special birds of prey are slightly more to purchase. All you need is between £3,500 - £8,000!!! (I KNOW!)

It was absolutely fascinating to see these magnificant birds so close up! A really unique experience!
