Choosing a school which will provide the best education for your child is one of the most important decisions that a parent has to make. We are delighted to welcome prospective parents and pupils to come and find out more about our excellent school, meet the Head and have a look around to see what makes Old Hutton CE Primary so very special. If you decide to send your child to us, you can be sure of a very warm welcome.

We are an outstanding, Christian school family where every child matters and is valued as an individual. We encourage everyone to develop their own talents and interests as well as become proficient in the basic key skills. Our exciting new ‘Learning for Life’ Curriculum is driven by 4 agreed elements which we believe should be experienced by and developed in every pupil:

Adventure; The Arts; Environment and Community; and Faith & Spirituality.

We have high standards and are proud of our excellent teaching and pupils’ achievements, which currently place us in the nation’s league table of top primary schools both locally and nationally.

Our talented teaching team is supported by dedicated teaching assistants and specialist teachers in PE, Art and Music. Peripatetic music teachers are also available for tuition in accordion, guitar/ukelele, drums, keyboard, brass, flute/fife, strings and voice.

The pupils benefit from close links with the community, especially with Old Hutton Pre-School and the Church, as well as co-operative working within our Kendal Collaborative Partnership and the Small Schools Consortium clusters of local schools, especially for team sports and shared visits.  A healthy school packed lunch is provided daily for our EYFS/KS1 and Pupil Premium pupils by Bendrigg Lodge, a local outdoor education centre and charity.

Our school serves the villages of Old and New Hutton and surrounding rural areas.  We also attract many pupils from a wider catchment area: Kendal, Oxenholme, Sedbergh and Kirby Lonsdale. Home-school transport is available for pupils via Cumbria County Council (contact school or see the Cumbria County Council website for more details).

We enrich our curriculum through the provision of a variety of extra-curricular clubs and adventure activities – see our Curriculum page. Extended hours are also provided by our excellent Wrap-Around Care.

All pupils wear school uniform which is available to buy or order from school – contact the office or order direct from our suppliers on-line.

We aim for each child to leave our school happy, fulfilled and well prepared for the next stage of their education.

We are very lucky to have a selection of outstanding secondary schools locally. Our pupils usually attend either Kirbie Kendal School (KKS), Queen Katherine School (QKS) in Kendal, Queen Elizabeth School (QES) in Kirkby Lonsdale,  Dallam School in Milnthorpe or Settlebeck School in Sedbergh. Pupils may also be entered for the entrance exam to attend the Lancaster Grammar Schools. Follow these links to the secondary schools’ own websites.

Our annual pupil admission number is 15. We currently have spaces available in year groups across school. If you would like a place, please contact the school office (see details at top and bottom of this page) and Cumbria County Council (http://www.cumbria.gov.uk/schooladmissions) to complete an admission form.
