At Old Hutton, every child is known, valued and supported to flourish socially, emotionally and academically.
Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make. At Old Hutton, we believe that every child is unique, and we work hard to ensure that every pupil is known as an individual, valued for who they are and supported to reach their full potential.
We are a small, welcoming village school with a strong sense of community. We know our children well, we celebrate their successes and we provide a rich range of experiences that help them to grow in confidence, develop resilience and discover a love of learning.
We love learning in nature
The great outdoors is an important part of life at Old Hutton.
We are incredibly fortunate to have our own on-site wildlife area, which provides children with regular opportunities to explore, investigate and learn about the natural world.
Our children also enjoy exciting outdoor experiences including fell walking, canoeing and paddleboarding. These experiences are about much more than developing practical skills. They help children develop teamwork, perseverance, communication, independence and confidence while creating memories that they will carry with them for years to come.
We love reading
A strong reading culture runs throughout our school.
We want every child to develop a genuine love of books and reading for pleasure. Stories, books and reading are woven into everyday school life, and we work hard to ensure that children have access to a wide range of exciting and engaging texts.
We believe that becoming a confident reader opens the door to learning, imagination and opportunity. We want our children to leave Old Hutton with a lifelong love of reading.
We are a thriving school community
Being a small school means that relationships are at the heart of everything we do.
Our children know each other, our staff know our children and we work closely with families. We are proud of our welcoming and supportive school community, where everyone plays an important part.
We celebrate together, learn together and support one another. We want children to feel that Old Hutton is a place where they belong.
Rich opportunities beyond the classroom
We want our children to experience as many opportunities as possible during their time at Old Hutton.
Alongside our broad and exciting curriculum, we offer a range of extra-curricular clubs after school, giving children opportunities to discover new interests, develop talents and spend time with their friends.
From sport and outdoor activities to creative and cultural experiences, there is always something happening at Old Hutton.
Wraparound care
We understand that family life can be busy, so we offer popular wraparound care from 8.00am until 5.20pm.
Our provision gives families flexibility while providing children with a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment before and after the school day.
A place where every child can flourish
Ultimately, Old Hutton is about our children.
We want every child to leave us feeling confident in who they are, proud of what they can achieve and excited about their future.
Whether they are exploring our wildlife area, reading a favourite book, paddling across the lake, walking in the fells, learning in the classroom, playing with friends or taking part in an after-school club, we want every child to feel known, valued and supported.
